MSU PRESS RELEASE

STARKVILLE, Miss.— A Mississippi State University Police Department investigation continues into a report of a possible abduction attempt on the Starkville campus Wednesday night near a residence hall.

The current status at MSU is that all MSU students and personnel are present or accounted for and no injuries were reported in the incident. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

At approximately 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, the MSUPD received a report from a person who said that they were walking behind Sessums Hall when an unidentified black male jumped from between two cars and attempted to grab them. The victim shouted for help and a second male responded to the cries for help. The perpetrator then released the victim and ran toward the campus Burger King. The black male was wearing a grey shirt. There is no additional descriptive information available at this time.

MSUPD responded immediately to the scene and secured the scene. A preliminary campus search for the perpetrator and the process of verifying the immediate safety of Sessums Hall and other residence halls followed.

At 11:39 p.m., Mississippi State University issued a Maroon Alert notification for the Starkville campus informing the campus community that the MSUPD had received notification of a possible abduction attempt near Sessums Hall.

The Maroon Alert remained on the MSU website until early Thursday morning as a precaution. The emergency.msstate.edu website now contains advisory information for MSU stakeholders who were asleep last night when the alert was issued.
