MSU Fans Gather At The Hump For A Watch Party
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Hundreds of Mississippi State fans came out to The Hump to watch the women’s basketball team play in the National Championship.
Cheering, clapping, and emotions took over the coliseum throughout the entire game.
In the final seconds, quietness took over, as Notre Dame’s last second scoring shot hit the net.
Here’s what fans had to say.
“I’m proud of the team. They had a great year, but it’s a heartbreaking loss. There’s no way to deny that it was a heartbreaking loss. I feel bad for the girls. They still made us proud, it is a heartbreaking loss,” says Scott Colom.
“I’m heartbroken. This cowbell has been with me for 50 years. It was with me in 1967. I don’t have 50 more years, but Mississippi State does. These girls and the coaches have made the entire state of Mississippi proud and this was a heart-breaker today, because we did so well in the first half and I still have all the faith in these girls and it’s going to be another opportunity for us. He’s got some great recruits coming in and some good girls sitting on the bench, but I’m very, very sad, but proud to be a Bulldog,” says Nancy Carpenter.
“I’m very proud of them. I’m just hurt,” says Elizabeth Beckham.
“It’s just hard to lose, coming so close,” says Catie Shofner.
“We were so close, yet so far away, but I am proud of them,” says Melanie Moody.
“Congratulations! I know you didn’t finish the way you wanted to, but I’m extremely proud of them to get this far and get in this position. I’ll take this all day,” says Benjamin Phillips.
“We still have to be proud of our girls because they have been here two years in a row and it’s something that had not been done before, so Hail State,” says Stephen Latham.
“We love our girls. We’re so proud of them. Praise the Lord and Go Dawgs! It was disappointing, very disappointing,” says Suzanne Caine.
Our WCBI crew in Columbus, Ohio, have learned the team is expected to arrive Monday at 12:20 pm, at Zacharius Village for fans wanting to meet the team.
