STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Just as valuable as Monday’s win over Virginia are tickets to the College World Series in Omaha.
There has been a mad dash to secure tickets for Saturday’s baseball series.
Bulldog fans have not been this enthusiastic since under the leadership of Coach Ron Polk when the team placed second in the SEC West and reached the 2007 College World Series.
Early Tuesday morning the phones were ringing off the hook as loyal Bulldog baseball fans scramble for tickets now that MSU Bulldogs have advanced for the 9th time in school history and are in the running for a title.
“You know its ringing constantly. They take phone call, put in the request, put the phone down and its ringing. They are just picking it up time after time so its pretty solid,” said Mike Richey, Bulldog Club and Ticket Operations .”
No tickets are online for this series, and not many people have been standing in long line, just office personnel fielding the calls.
“We didn’t put them online just because there is a quick turnaround on this and it is a request. Its not necessarily a purchase. So we didn’t put them online, we’re doing it all on the phone,” said Richey.
“This year it’s a little bit different even though we were on the road for the Super regional. We were home for the regional. And I think people had been expecting us to have a chance to have this kind of success and make it back to Omaha also. Maybe a little bit higher volume this time because people were kind of expecting this to happen and had a possibility it would happen,” said Richey.
No definite word on just how many tickets are made available. The full tournament booklets are in Omaha and they are sold on basically a season ticket basis. And those are really sold out. When requesting a ticket, lovers of the game had to factor in a reality… a successful request for tickets is based on a priority basis.
“So what the teams that participate receive is an allotment from the NCAA just for the teams and some fans. So we have a very limited quantity and we’re not 100% sure what that quantity is going to be right now,” said Richey.
They were taking request for tickets until five o’clock Tuesday.
