JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI Sports) – Mississippi State safeties coach and recruiting coordinator Tony Hughes was introduced as the next head coach at Jackson State Monday. It will be Hughes’ first head coaching job.
He said Monday that he has not made a decision regarding whether or not he’ll stay at Mississippi State through the Dec. 30 Belk Bowl.
Hughes has spent the last seven years in Starkville in a coaching career that’s spanned 31 years. He was an assistant at Ole Miss from 2005 to 2007 and at Southern Miss, his alma mater, in 2008.
Jackson State went 8-15 the past two seasons under Rick Comegy, Harold Jackson and assistant-turned-interim coach Derrick McCall.
