LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A birthday party this weekend goes terribly wrong.
A Louisville mother is speaking out after the man accused of killing her son at the party makes his first court appearance Monday afternoon.
“I was just crying and saying, ‘Oh God, I hope my son will be all right. Please God, let my son be all right,'” said Doris Walker, the victim’s mother.
All family members have left of Taqee Mullins are memories.
Mullins was stabbed to death the night before his 23rd birthday.
“He lost his life trying to protect his cousin,” Walker said. “He just got the worst end of the deal.”
Assistant Chief Andy Taylor with the Louisville police department says Taqee did step in to protect his cousin.
That’s when investigators think her boyfriend, Marvin Dash, stabbed Taqee in his side. He died a short time later at a local hospital.
“We’ve got evidence that’s going to the crime lab and we’re still taking statements ’cause there was numerous witnesses on scene,” Taylor said.
Even though the prime suspect is behind bars, Taylor says the investigation is far from over.
“It’s bad anytime anything like this happens, but it’s especially bad for a young man just starting out,” he said.
“He was a fun, easy going guy,” Walker said. “Never been in any kind of trouble. He was well respected, and I ain’t have no problems out of him growing up as a child.”
And for a mother who just lost her son, her only hope is for answers to what seems like such a senseless crime.
“I said, ‘Why did you stab my son?’ He said that he didn’t know it was my son, so I just want justice done,” Walker said.
Police say 33-year old Marvin Dash remains in jail, charged with murder.
Mullins’ funeral will be this Saturday at 2 p.m. at Unity Church in Louisville.
