Mother Charged After Child Found Alone

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — A Lee County mother is jailed after her child is found wandering along a county road. Sheriff Jim Johnson says the 4 year old boy was picked up by a passing motorist Tuesday afternoon on County Road 47. The motorist carried the child, who was dressed only in jeans, a shirt and a light jacket, to his home and called authorities. Deputies searched the area for about an hour when 22 year old Alicia Rodgers approached them and said she had a child missing and admitted it had been more than 12 hours since she had last seen the little boy.

Rodgers said she had been doing drugs the night before and went to sleep around 11:30 Monday evening. The suspect, who says she is living in a van, is now being held on a 75 thousand dollar bond. The child has been placed in the custody of his biological father.
