Monroe Supervisors Approve Road Bond Issue
MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Monroe County could begin everything from paving to rebuilding 200 miles of roads next spring if the public doesn’t object.
Supervisors voted 3-2 Friday to issue $5 million in bonds to start work on a plan presented by Road Manager Sonny Clay. Some supervisors wanted more time to study the road list and how the money would be used in each of thd county’s five supervisor’s districts before voting on the plan, which was first presented last month.
The program won’t require a tax increase because the county is paying off a similar amount of bonds this year and will use those existing revenues to pay off the new ones over 15 years.
The county must hold a hearing on the bond issue and the public could call a referendum on the bond issue. If a referendum isn’t called, work could begin by next spring.
