NETTLETON, Miss. (WCBI) — Steve A. Brantley of Fort Worth, Texas was already under investigation. Sheriff Cecil Cantrell said the evidence his investigators had gathered led them to believe that the 53-year old was the ring leader of a massive ICE operation The believe he was trafficking the pure form of methamphetamine from Texas to Mississippi. So, they set up an undercover drug buy.
“We were watching Mr. Brantley for about 6 weeks. He’s been trafficking drugs through our county. We knew he had made a run from Texas to here, and this morning we made a buy off one of his people that sells drugs for him. After that we made a traffic stop on her coming to this premises. She would not stop. She came to the house here. When we got here we got her out of the vehicle, and we found more drugs. She said there were about between half a gallon and a gallon of ice in the house,” says Monroe Sheriff Cecil Cantrell.
But what happened next at the home on the corner of Highway 6 East and New Road is something law enforcement trains for, but hopes will never happen. The drug raid turned into a standoff. Brantley, and his alleged accomplice, 35-year old David Little, were allegedly armed with Ak47’s… Not only were they threatening law enforcement, they allegedly sexually assaulted a female victim.
“We have a lady at the E R in Tupelo, Mississippi. She claims that she has been sexually assaulted by these two individuals,” says Sheriff Cantrell.
She was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center for treatment. It took six hours, and help from the Mississippi Highway Patrol SWAT Team, but standoff came to a close–without fatal fire and one clear message.
“We’re gonna protect the innocent people in Monroe County. We’re not gonna have drug selling in Monroe County!”
Multiple charges are pending against Little and Brantley.
