Modern Dance Featured In Free Concert This Weekend
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Modern dance comes to Northeast Mississippi this weekend, August 26 and 27, with two performances in Tupelo.
The “Doniphan Dance Project” will hold its annual concert, on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, at Tupelo High School’s Performing Arts Center.
The theme of this year’s concert is “Exploring Textures” and with eight dances, a flurry of costume changes and other surprises, there is something for everyone.
“For the dancers, yes they are incredibly talented dancers and movers, but I think it is so much more than that and dance is just the vehicle we have to teach them how to communicate and how to collaborate and how to be good listeners and supportive,” said Artistic Director, Roxie Clayton.
“What I like about modern dance is you’re able to fluidly move your body and even the subtle moments are just, moving your hand, creates a story,” said Dancer LaDarius Lee.
The performances take place Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.
The concert is free, but donations will be accepted for the non-profit modern dance company, based in Tupelo.
