Mississippians may be able to soon have alcohol delivered to their door
JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – Mississippians could soon have alcohol delivered right to their front door.
In the 2021 session, Mississippi Legislature passed House Bill 1135 to create an alcohol delivery service.
The bill proposes for retailers to sell beer, wine, and liquor on the go.
However, businesses have to qualify for a delivery service permit and contract before selling beverages.
Some of the requirements include filing an application with the division, paying the privilege license tax of 500 dollars, and have proof they are 21-years-old with no record of a felony.
Customers must also prove they are at least 21-years-old.
Local liquor stores say this can bring in more money to their business.
“I believe that it w8il be very beneficial. I believe that it will help a lot of the elderly customers that really have a hard time traveling. I believe that they will still be able to get what they need or anyone else with a disability,” said Tyberious Buckner, Rooks Cellar Wine and Spirits. “It would also help eliminate a lot of drunk driving because it is delivered to their house they’re already there. They don’t have to leave come to get it and drink it on the way back.”
The bill will now move to the Senate.
