Mississippi Unemployment Rate Highest in U.S.
STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, – (U.S. Dept. of Labor) Mississippi’s unemployment rate is the highest in the nation. The U.S Labor Department released the report Friday afternoon, showing the Magnolia State tied with Rhode Island at 7.9% last month.
The state’s unemployment rate rose from 7.7% in May, but is still lower than the 8.7% reported in June of 2013.
While the number of Mississippians in the workforce has dropped, the national average at 6.1% shows that more Americans are working overall.
