JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – Officials in Mississippi are studying how a ruling against the state of Texas will impact its voter i.d. law. A Mississippi law that would require people to display a government-issued photo identification to vote is pending before the U.S. Department of Justice.
Under federal law, all chanced to the state’s election law must be approved.
In Thursday’s ruling, a court said the similar Texas law placed “strict and unforgiving burdens on the poor”, specifically racial minorities.
