Mississippi State Tailgating

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -Football season is finally here and Mississippi State fans have been preparing their tents and grills for the first home game.
Mississippi State fans are known for their tailgating. No matter if you are new at the event or have been doing it for years, there are a few staples you must always have at your tent.
“Three things that you have to at tailgate you got to have food, you got to have the fellowship of all of your family and friends, but most of all you got to have fun. Because you getting ready to go see a football game,” says Paige Hunt.
For some, tailgating is more than just hanging out before a game. It’s a family tradition that’s been handed down through generations.
“This is tradition that has been going on in my family for my goodness, over 50 years. My grandfather started it then my dad. Actually my daughter Paige is pregnant with my first grandchild and we know it’s going to be a boy. And John is going to continue the generation of new bulldog fans,” says Nubbie Herring.
Paige Hunt who has been tailgating at Mississippi State for 34 years is excited to pass the tradition down to her son.
“His crib and dresser got delivered yesterday his whole room is Mississippi State; it’s maroon and white. We have jokingly been telling people that we are due between the Alabama and Texas A & M games so we can’t wait, so he is a little bulldog whether he wants to be or not,” says Hunt.
The Smith family started tailgating four years ago. Every year they look forward to meeting new friends and spending time with old ones.
“The people coming through, our daughter comes and brings all of her friends she is a senior here at state this year so the food the drinks the time together it’s really great,” says Stan Smith.
No matter what you bring to your tailgate, it is the spirit of the fans that make the experience enjoyable.
