Mississippi Lawmakers End 2018 Session
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi lawmakers are concluding their 2018 regular session.
The House and the Senate adjourned the three-month session Wednesday.
Lawmakers enacted a 15-week ban on most abortions, although a judge temporarily blocked that law hours after it took effect.
They renewed rules for the state’s Medicaid program.
They were unable to agree on a new education funding formula or a plan to provide significantly more money for roads and bridges. They also didn’t decide how to spend economic damages paid by BP PLC after the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
Legislators enacted a $6.1 billion budget that provides a little more for some agencies, with revenue growing after several years of flat collections. They agreed to borrow more than $250 million for state projects.
