TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – For nearly six months now, Hannah Hathorn has been part of several mock interview sessions, she practices “the walk” and since her talent is singing, Miss Tupelo has been giving her vocal chords a workout.
It’s all done under the direction of Amye Gousset.
“Practice makes perfect,” Gousset says.
Gousset is director of the Miss Tupelo Pageant, and she has been helping prepare Hathorn for the state pageant this summer.
“Hannah and I have become best friends, we spend a lot of time together and if we’re not together directly we’re texting, emailing, facebooking or something,” Gousset says.
The Mississippi State sophomore is spending virtually all of her free time practicing and says the entire experience has helped her grow in many ways.
“Being able to compete with girls, to be able to sing, for me my voice has developed tremendously since I started in this program, so in every category there’s always something that’s betttering myself,” Hathorn says.
Hathorn is also thankful the experience gives her a chance to share her passion and platform, which is child mentoring.
“I run a program called mentor me, which is an organization at Mississippi State , where we take Mississippi State students into the boys and girls clubs once a week for an hour,” she said.
This will be her second time competing at Miss Mississippi and Hannah believes knowing what to expect has helped her better prepare for the road to Vicksburg.
