Mental health struggles and support during the holiday season
The holiday season is generally a time of joy and togetherness, but for some, this is not the case.
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- The holiday season is generally a time of joy and togetherness, but for some, this is not the case.
Many struggle during the holiday season for a variety of reasons.
Kim Criswell of Baptist Behavioral Health said there are ways to brighten someone’s spirits.
“The holidays can be difficult for many people but there are ways to get through and actually be able to find joy in the holidays,” Criswell said.
Mental health and counseling services are offered throughout the year, but there is also an over-the-phone option.
“If you are at home and you are really struggling and you need someone to talk to and you are feeling alone and you are having a hard time there’s the national crisis hotline number is 988. You call 988 if you are having a crisis and you just need to talk to someone,” Criswell said.
If you have a family member or friend who needs help this season, there are ways you can try to offer support.
“If you want to help those you know who may be struggling and having a hard time, drop them a text, send them a card, invite them out to dinner, maybe plan some time to do something with them. So that they can be involved in something and also feel like they are a part of the community,” Criswell said.
If you need someone to talk to this season you can call the National Crisis Hotline at 988 or reach out to Baptist Behavioral Health.
