Memorial Service Set Saturday for Coach

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — The community will get a chance to pay tribute to a long-time basketball coach Saturday.

A memorial service for Coach Stan Hughey is 2 p.m. Saturday at West End Baptist Church in West Point. Visitation is from 12 to 2 p.m. Memorials can be made to the Stan Hughey Scholarship Fund at Bancorpsouth in West Point.

The 55-year-old Hughey was found dead of an apparent suicide at his home Sunday.

A private family funeral was held in Jackson Wednesday morning.

He won more than 450 games as the girls coach at Oak Hill Academy before taking over at East Webster High this year.

He is survived by his mother, two sisters, a brother and other relatives.
