Third memorial planted for fallen MHP Troop G officer

CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – For the third time this week, Troop G of Mississippi Highway Patrol plants a sign to remember those who served.

Trooper Bill Coward died of natural causes in 1965, and now a permanent reminder of his service is planted on Highway 50 outside of West Point.

Master Sergeant Criss Turnipseed of Troop G said he’s proud to have this kind of tribute.

“There’s no service without sacrifice. No matter what the service is, it’s going to cost something. It might cost you time, it might cost money, and in some cases, some professions, it could cost you your life, so these signs are a reminder that the service highway patrol gives sometimes is very costly and it cost a lot,” said Turnipseed.

This was the final sign of the year placed by Troop G.
