MEC’s Regional Round-Up to Stop in Tupelo Dec. 5

JACKSON, Miss. (Press Release) — Highlighting the strengths of regions throughout Mississippi is the goal of the Mississippi Economic Council’s Regional Round-Up meetings. The Tupelo stop is set for Friday, Dec. 5 at the Elvis Presley Birthplace, located at 306 Elvis Presley Dr. The event, which will be held from 7 8:30 a.m., is co-hosted by the Community Development Foundation and North Mississippi Industrial Development Association.

Over the next few months, MEC will travel to approximately 30 communities throughout the state, discussing opportunities for those communities and regions to help grow Mississippi’s economic competitiveness. During the Regional Round-Up meetings, which are sponsored by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi, MEC will focus on how the nine regions across the state can work together to build on their strengthens and how each region is vital in helping Mississippi grow and prosper.

“MEC’s mission has long been to build a sense of statewide business community,” MEC President and CEO Blake Wilson said. “There is no better way to do this than to work with regions throughout the state to identify the opportunities that exist and look for ways to take advantage of those opportunities.”

MEC’s Regional Round-Up will look at region-specific economic drivers, as well as state-wide issues like transportation, healthcare, workforce, education and healthy communities. This regional approach to economic development is based on the four major goals of the Blueprint Mississippi initiative, which are:

• Economic Competitiveness
• Education Achievement & Workforce Development
• Resource Management
• Technology Commercialization

MEC’s Regional Round-Up is a great opportunity to network with fellow business and community leaders. Each session will be 90 minutes long and lunch will be provided.
