MDOT To Charge Suspected Asphalt Thieves

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A case of literal Highway Burglary? Mississippi’s Department of Transportation thinks so.

W.C. Bell, 53, Richard Cunningham, 59, Elmore Ewing, 65, Timmy Robertson, 49, and Floyd Ladarius Young, 26, were arrested yesterday afternoon, January 29, in Monroe County for allegedly stealing asphalt.

Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell says, when deputies arrived on scene, the five said MDOT had given them permission to remove the excess asphalt.

A short call to MDOT proved that not to be the case, and the five are now facing Grand Larceny charges.

The total bond for the five men is $5,000.
