McGregory Is Out As South Lamar Head Football Coach
MILLPORT, Ala. (WCBI Sports) – WCBI has learned that Shannon McGregory will no longer be the head football coach at South Lamar High School.
McGregory said the school did not want him to coach the team for the 2016 season, and the school did not give him a reason as to why. He resigned late last week. This year he would have become tenured.
“I hate that it happened,” he said. He added that he thought South Lamar will be competitive this season and that he was looking forward to the next two years with the team in particular.
McGregory was 16-19 in his three seasons in Millport. The team went 8-5 a year ago, which included a win in the playoffs. South Lamar had a winless season in 2012, the year prior to McGregory’s arrival.
“I thought he did a good job,” James Moore said. Moore is the head coach at Lamar County High School, the Stallions’ biggest rival.
“The program was kinda in shambles when he took over,” he said. “He had his kids going in the right direction.”
South Lamar High School has not responded to WCBI’s request for comment.
