MCDC Escapee Recaptured Hours After Getaway

MONROE CO., Miss. (WCBI) – A few hours of freedom lands an Abbeville man back behind bars with additional charges.

18-year-old Jonathan Austin Henry managed to escape from the Monroe County Detention Center around 10:45 PM Wednesday night, but was quickly recaptured around 12:30 AM Thursday morning in Aberdeen.

Henry was classified as an A-OUT, non-violent offender, which means he was authorized to work in public without a guard. He will now be re-classified.

Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell tells WCBI that Henry was slated to serve a three-year sentence initially, but his escape has netted him additional charges, and a judge could add ten years to his sentence.
