Current Mayor of Madison, Mary Hawkins Butler is now in the running for a new position.
After being Mayor for 34 years, Mary Hawkins Butler wants to seek change throughout the state in a different way, by running for State Auditor.

Hawkins says it was a hard decision for her to step down from her mayor position, but she felt like it was something she needed to do.
She made it very clear that she did not want to use this as a stepping stone.
While being mayor of Madison she won countless of awards.

Hawkins said if she’s elected, she plans to end corruption throughout the state and find out where the state’s money is going.

“And we get more federal dollars per capita than any other state in the United States, and we need to find out where that money is going, that’s the number one thing I think we need to do,” Hawkins said

Hawkins will run against Stacey Pickering who has held the position for the last seven years. Primary is set for August 4th.
