Maroon Madness Returning to Downtown Starkville
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI/MSU Athletics) – Maroon Madness is returning to the streets of Downtown Starkville.
On Friday, Oct. 10 the Mississippi State men’s and women’s basketball teams officially tip off their seasons with the 4th Annual Maroon Madness.
Scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., this event will be held in conjunction with Pumpkinpalooza, the city’s fall festival that features trick-or-treating, late-night shopping and dining and other action-packed events for the entire family. Face painting will be available for kids of all ages, and there will also be a Pumpkin Patch featuring locally-grown pumpkins and mums for sale.
On the court, which will be located on Main Street directly across from the Starkville Cafe, MSU coaches Rick Ray and Vic Schaefer will introduce their respective players, while the men will be decked out in their new Adidas uniforms. The night will also feature dunk and shooting contests, along with other interactive events that also include the cheerleaders and Bully.
A limited number of “StarkVegas” T-shirts will be given away, and Maroon Madness will conclude with an autograph session around 7:40 p.m.
“We are thrilled to include Maroon Madness in the 5th Annual Pumpkinpalooza,” said Jenn Gregory, the chief executive officer of the Greater Starkville Development Partnership. “This is a favorite community event by many, and part of the New South Weekends campaign that aims to show off the very best of Starkville for visiting MSU fans. Coach Ray and Coach Schaefer have exciting teams to show off, and we can’t wait to have them on Main Street in Downtown Starkville.”
Pumpkinpalooza festivities begin at 6 p.m., followed by a pep rally at 6:30.
