Video: Marine Reservist Files Suit Against Oktibbeha Co. Deputies

OKTIBBEHA CO., Miss. – (WCBI) A Marine reservist, found guilty of of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct in Oktibbeha County Justice Court, is now suing the people who arrested him.

Maurice Washington was originally arrested in august at the 21 apartment complex during a party. Oktibbeha County deputies responded to noise complaints from neighbors and asked the crowd at the party to go home. That’s when things apparently got a little out of hand. Washington was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

He was convicted of those charges in January.

Now, Maurice Washington is suing Oktibbeha County and deputies, Andre Quinn and John Ford, for police brutality, excessive force, and for being tasered while handcuffed.

Washington’s attorney Carlos Moore of Grenada emailed a cell phone video to television stations, capturing the taser incident.

In a statement, attorney Moore says:

“After serving his country faithfully, my client never expected to be treated worse than a prisoner of war by those sworn to protect and serve.”

So here’s what Oktibbeha County has to say. Counsel Ray Hill states:

     “The Deputies did not use excessive force and they caused Mr. Washington no injury whatsoever. Oktibbeha County will defend this case vigorously and looks forward to its day in Court.”

Washington is seeking at least 500 thousand dollars in damages from Oktibbeha County. In the meantime, he has appealed his conviction.
