MANTACHIE, Miss. (WCBI) — Another year means another season of history at Mantachie.

For the second time in three years, The Tach was back in the playoffs and finished the season with a winning record. That hasn’t happened in school history since the Mustangs moved up to 2A.

This year, it’s about building off of last season with what’s returning for head coach T.J. Seago.

“We have a lot of kids back that played a lot of football last year,” coach Seago said. “Just getting the guys back out and build on what we’ve been doing. They’ve all bought in. Out at practice, I don’t have to do much teaching to the younger guys because the older guys do it for me.”

“We have the whole offense back and I feel like we have plenty of people who can carry the ball and make big plays for us,” senior Bryce Parker said. “The momentum coming from last season going into this season the game we lost we’ll pick up and do the best we can do.”

Last year’s season didn’t end the way the Mustangs wanted it to, with a disappointing shut-out loss to Winona in the pouring rain.

“We’re using that game as momentum,” Parker said. “The team that ended one of the best seasons we’ve ever had, yeah we’re definitely going to use it.”

Leading returning running back Logan Pettigo agrees it’s being used for fuel but he knows the Mustangs have to continue on towards this season.

“We’re not worried about the past we’re worried about what’s coming for us now,” said Pettigo.

“The next step is to win the first division championship in the school’s history,” Seago said. “That’s not an easy task because Baldwyn is there. They’re the standard in our division. It’s always tough chasing them but that challenge is always fun.”
