COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A 67-year-old Columbus man gets five years in prison for exploiting children for pornography.
Noel Sumrall Jr. was sentenced Tuesday afternoon in Lowndes County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to the state charges. He got 15 years but 10 of those were suspended, leaving the five to serve. He also was fined $2,500.
He pleaded guilty in March to federal child pornography charges and is awaiting sentencing. He faces up to 10 years on those charges.
Sumrall originally was arrested in December 2011 after Columbus Police acted on a tip and searched his home on Fifth Avenue North.
Officers hauled out several crates filled with hundreds of pictures of nude children between the ages of 4 and 17. Computers and other electronic records were later seized and federal agencies got involved.
