CORINTH — A Corinth man has been sentenced to serve 15 years in prison for leaving the scene of a 2011 accident in which a pedestrian was killed.
The Daily Corinthian reports that Robert Shane Parker was sentenced this past week to 20 years in prison with five years suspended and five years of post-release supervision.
Parker pleaded guilty in November to the lesser charge. He had been indicted on a charge of culpable negligence manslaughter.
Authorities say Parker was driving a Jeep Cherokee on an Alcorn County road on April 7, 2011, when the vehicle struck 85-year-old John D. Calvery. Calvery was near the roadside picking up trash. Calvery was pronounced dead a short time later.
A stretch of roadway was later named in honor of Calvery by Alcorn County.
