Man dies after being ejected from car in Columbus crash

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – An elderly man injured in a Highway 12 accident in Columbus has died.

Daryl Smith, 71, passed away at a Jackson hospital Friday morning.

The crash happened Thursday afternoon.

Witnesses on scene said that a Penske Truck collided with a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Smith was ejected after it rolled over.

Columbus police are investigating the accident.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant said Smith is the fifth person to die in an automobile crash this week in the
