Man Charged With DUI Maiming

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A Columbus man is charged with DUI maiming after police say he caused an accident that left at least one person seriously injured.

Columbus police say 56-year-old Vernon Phifer was arrested following the two-car accident at about 2:30 Sunday afternoon on Main Street at Propst Park.

A passenger in his vehicle suffered serious head and neck injuries.

He also was charged with not having insurance.
