Major Tuscaloosa Interstate Stretch Closed Tuesday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) – Tuscaloosa County sheriff’s officials say two interstate exit ramps on the northbound lanes of Interstate 59 have been closed after a truck carrying liquid asphalt overturned.

Authorities say exit 68 and the entrance ramp from Joe Mallisham Parkway will be closed Tuesday afternoon while crews work to clean the highway and move the truck from the area.

Officials expect that portion of the interstate to be closed through rush hour, and sheriff’s officials are encouraging drivers to find alternate routes.

Information on the cause of the crash and any reported injuries was not immediately available.
