Lowndes Supes Tighten Travel Policy
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Lowndes County supervisors will have to be a little more accountable to taxpayers when they attend conferences or file monthly mileage reports.
Under a new travel policy approved by a 3-2 vote today, supervisors attending conferences will not be reimbursed for expenses outside of the actual conference dates.
In addition, monthly mileage reports must included details about where supervisors traveled and who they saw.
Supervisor Leroy Brooks prompted the new policy when he was paid for attending a conference in June a day before the conference started.
His monthly mileage forms also only list constituent services as the purpose of his daily business.
Brooks and Supervisor Jeff Smith asked to table the policy to give them more time to study it.
