Lowndes Supervisor Repays $199
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Lowndes County Supervisor Leroy Brooks repays a disputed $199 bill rather than continue a fight.
Brooks says he still thinks he did nothing wrong but decided to repay the money to avoid bogging the Board of Supervisors down in the dispute.
The issue came up in July after county leaders realized Brooks had gone to the state supervisors association’s summer conference a day early and that the board had approved payment of the hotel bill for that night. Brooks’ sometimes nemesis, Board President Harry Sanders, wanted to take the money out of Brooks’ monthly mileage check.
They got an attorney general’s opinion this week that cleared up some questions but not all.
Brooks paid the bill today to avoid a court fight.
