Lowndes Damage Clean-Up Continues
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Crews started working early Friday morning to restore power and clear roads in Lowndes County.
An apparent tornado touched downtown in the New Hope area just after 6 PM on Thursday.
As of Friday morning, 4-County Electric Power Association says just over 300 customers were without power.
The Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency says all roads are open but are still being cleared of debris.
However, the agency ask residents who do not live in the tornado damaged areas to stay away.
Onlookers have been slowing progress to completely clear the roadways and restore power.
4-County asks people to stay away from downed power lines.
Lowndes EMA says 28 structures in the county were damaged. One structure is a complete loss.
The Red Cross shelter at the New Hope Community Center will remain open through Saturday morning. So far, no one has stayed at the shelter.
No injuries were reported in Lowndes County as a result of the storm.
