LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Down years are unacceptable at a school such as Louisville, a school that is 2nd in Mississippi in MHSAA Football State Championships.

But last year could be characterized as one, as the Wildcats went through growing pains in 2015.

Head coach MC Miller hopes the youth that got valuable reps a season ago will mesh with the experience that is returning.

“One thing that I like about this team, they’re experienced and they’re still young”, said Miller.

“We still got a young ball club but we still ready to play. We have all about 10 or 12 seniors, 3 or 4 of them start, and most of our team is made up of juniors and sophomores.”

It’s the one-point loss to Greenwood to end the season that continues to eat at the Wildcats. A game that Louisville had got away from them. That defeat in the second round of the playoffs is driving the team during the offseason.

“It’s in my mind ever since we lost…”, said senior offensive lineman Darius Smith, “…we changed by practicing hard every day, and one Friday night, put on a show.”

“We were a better team than them, but the better team won…”, said senior defensive back Isaiah Latham.

“The way we start is the way we finish. You got to start out fire and go out the same ability”, said senior wide receiver Cam’Ron Harrington.

It’s been three years since the 16-0 State Championship team at Louisville, and the State Title is still the goal at the proud football school that has the Gold Ball on their minds.

“We got high expectationsto go to state, and we got a good team, a lot of players coming back, so we can go all the way”, said Latham.

“Last year, we got a little slack and didn’t come through like we should”, said coach Miller, “But this time I think the guys see the mistake they made, and I think they’re ready to push on through with it.”

Louisville will start the season with back to back 5-A road games against New Hope and West Point before starting September against 3-A Title favorite Kemper County at home.
