Longtime Constable passes away
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A long time Lowndes County Constable has passed away.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant told WCBI that District 1 Constable Willie “Hoot” West died Thursday afternoon.
West was injured in a single-car crash Monday morning. He was taken to Baptist Golden Triangle, but was later transferred to Tupelo.
“Hoot” West was first elected constable in 1967. He served Lowndes County District 1 for 52 years and was set to retire this year at the end of his term.
Hoot West was 81 years old.
