Longest-serving Itawamba County Sheriff will soon leave office
ITAWAMBA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – He has been a fixture in law enforcement for years, but Itawamba County Sheriff Chris Dickinson will soon leave office.
Dickinson was defeated in his bid for a fifth term by former Fulton Police Chief Mitch Nabors during the general election.
Dickinson had served longer than any sheriff in that county and said he had enjoyed leading deputies, investigators, and corrections officers at the jail
In fact, Dickinson said his proudest moment in office was the completion of the new Justice Center.
“We were spending way too much money going out of the county and it made no sense spending that kind of money. Supervisors finally realized it was a money pit. We got the jail built. If I hadn’t stayed with it, we would still be there, at the old jail. It’s something the people can be proud of, and I’m proud of it,” said Dickinson.
Dickinson’s last day in office will be New Year’s Eve. He said he is looking at several opportunities, once he takes some time off.
