Local Officers’ Funeral

Brookhaven, Miss. (WCBI) – Funerals were held Wednesday for Brookhaven Police Department Patrolman James White, 35 and Corporal Zach Moak, 31.

Officer White and Corporal Moak both died Saturday after responding to a call. During the funeral service, Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant awarded White with The Mississippi Medal of Valor explaining the importance for his service.

“I’m sorry I did not know James white because these are the people that you wanted to be close to.” Governor Bryant said. “People who care, people who serve, people who will lay down their lives for their friends.”

Brookhaven Police Department Chief Kenneth Collins told people that the officer will forever be remembered. Chief Collins also showed support for the families and people close to the fallen officers.

“This is you’re father’s army and we will never give up, we will never stop fighting, and we will never surrender, ever, because this is what God has chosen for us to do.” Collins said.  “Your father will never be forgotten, and when y’all get lonely, stop and talk to us and we’ll be there for you.”
