MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is making the rounds on social media and has raised millions of dollars. But for a Monroe County man, it’s personal and that’s why he accepted the challenge.
50-year-old Albert Pierse was diagnosed with ALs last year. The condition, often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease,” affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
Pierse took a bucket of ice water to raise awareness Tuesday, but also to put a face on the disease.
Staff from Legacy Hospice helped with Pierse’s challenge.
You can donate to ALS research at an account set up in Albert Pierse’s name at any Bancorpsouth branch in Mississippi.
