STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — The investigation into a minor traffic accident involving MSU Police Chief Georgia Lindley continues to ripple through the Starkville Police Department.
At the recommendation of Interim Police Chief John Outlaw, Starkville aldermen have disciplined Master Sergeant Shawn Word for his role in handling the accident investigation and report. What punishment was handed down to Word has not been disclosed.
Word worked the November 16th accident where Georgia Lindley nicked the rear of a car at the intersection of Lampkin and Meigs streets and continued home, not realizing she had hit the other car. Photos at the time show very minor damage to the two vehicles.
Two witnesses reported the accident and one followed Georgia Lindley home. Starkville Police Chief David Lindley, who has been forced to retire over the incident, provided his wife’s license and insurance information but no blood alcohol test was taken, although one of the witnesses told the police the driver appeared to be weaving.
Georgia Lindley also was not cited for leaving the scene.
