Lee County School Bond Issue Passes
TUPELO, Miss. (AP) – Lee County residents have approved a $13.5 million school bond issue.
Complete but unofficial returns from Tuesday’s election show the bond issue passed with 85 percent of the vote.
The bond issue will fund various construction and renovation projects on nine of county school district’s 11 campuses. The new debt would not result in a tax increase because it would replace a 1993 bond issue that expires next month.
County School Superintendent Jimmy Weeks says the district needs to address overcrowding and aging facilities.
To pass, the bond issue had to be approved by 60 percent of those voting.
The election was for those who live in the Lee County School District.
Projects include new buildings throughout the district and demolition of older buildings.
