Lee County Sheriff’s Department search for embezzlement suspects
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)- Authorities are looking for two men suspected of being part of a scheme to embezzle more than $100,000 from a Lee County business.
Devonta Pierre Orr, 27 and Travares Brown, 38, are wanted for questioning by the Lee County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff Jim Johnson says the two worked for Mitchell Distributing when they allegedly stole merchandise such as beer, and sold it to stores, who would then re sell the stolen merchandise, without paying taxes.
Five others have been arrested and charged in connection with the thefts.
“Products were taken to multiple locations that sell products distributed by Mitchell, two stores we have positively identified are located in Chickasaw County. With the situation of the individuals being employed, they were personally gaining from products obtained through their employer and that’s where embezzlement comes in,” said Sheriff Johnson.
Anyone with information on the locations of Orr and Brown should call local authorities.
The Mississippi Department of Revenue and the Alcohol Beverage Commission are part of the investigation.
Stores that sold the stolen merchandise could also face charges.
