Learning to lead at Sudduth Elementary

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A Starkville school has been building character and leaders for the past 25 years.

Sudduth Elementary celebrated its “Sudduth Kids” program Friday with a parade, special program, and reception.

The program started during the 1993-94 school year to promote good citizenship, character development, and positive behavior.

One student from each class is selected weekly and rewarded with a certificate and t-shirt.

Retired school counselor, Lynn Barron, started the program and was there for today’s celebration.

“For some of them it was like Christmas morning. I mean in some children, it means more to than others, of course but I can remember over the years it would make a child prouder than probably than anything then owned was to get a t-shirt,” says Barron.

Area businesses, clubs, and individuals sponsor the “Sudduth Kids” program.
