Leaders hopeful restaurant tax will be on the special session agenda
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- The Lowndes County Board of Supervisors will consider a resolution to possibly give lawmakers in the upcoming special session.
County officials say there is word, Governor Phil Bryant could include the Columbus and Lowndes County restaurant tax on the agenda of the special session.
If that is the case, a resolution must be passed by the supervisors and city councilmen.
The tax expired on June 30th, after much controversy, and there was not a bill in the legislature to renew the tax.
Most of the disagreement centered around whether the legislation should include a minimum amount of sales.
A spokesman for Governor Bryant says the agenda will be announced 24 to 48 before it begins.
No word on whether Columbus leaders will also consider a resolution.
