Video: Kabir Karriem Makes Statement After Arrest
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Kabir Karriem’s attorney released a statement Wednesday afternoon from his client following his Tuesday arrest.
The statement is below:
“Kabir Karriem is a loving and protecting father. The rumors and innuendo circulated over the past 24 hours have been hurtful to both Representative Karriem and his daughter. Much of the circumstance surrounding his arrest raise the question of political motivation. Thank you to the media for allowing us to provide a statement; something not afforded to use in the rush to judgement in this case. We appreciate the outpouring of prayer and support and look forward to the truth coming out at the appropriate time.”

Karriem is free on bond after police arrested him for domestic violence early Tuesday morning.
He turned himself in, according to Columbus police. He’s facing misdemeanor charges.
Police said the first-term Democrat’s adult daughter made a 911 call late Monday. Investigators are not saying if she is the alleged victim. They don’t identify domestic violence victims. They added that the person he allegedly assaulted did not require any medical attention.
The incident allegedly happened near the intersection of 14th Avenue North and Military Road.
The 43-year-old represents District 41, which covers Columbus. Residents elected him last year. He previously served on the city council.
