Judge retires assault charge against Columbus businessman ‘Mr. John’
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus businessman accused of holding someone at gunpoint will not face a judge, at least for the near future.
A municipal judge has retired a simple assault charge levied against Adel Musa, better known as Mr. John.
Musa, the owner of United Deli, was arrested in February after he reportedly held a man at gunpoint, who he believed to be stealing from one of his properties.
Police could not determine if the man was the same one seen in surveillance video from the property, and turned the man loose and arrested Musa, charging him with simple assault.
His original court date was rescheduled, and he was supposed to go before the judge on Monday, but the case was retired.
Retiring does not mean that the charges are completely dismissed. If police or prosecutors provide further evidence, they could reintroduce charges.
