Joyner Elementary Students Take Part In ‘National Walk To School Day’
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Joyner Elementary Students were able to take part in a Zumba Class, moments before they walked to school.
It is National Walk To School Day, and students, along with their parents, met at Oak Ridge Christian Church, had the Zumba lesson for a warm up, then walked to Joyner Elementary.
Organizers say joining the national event promotes physical fitness and creates bonds between children and their parents.
“A lot of parents don’t get to walk with their kids to school, so by meeting early, people who have to get work can take time to enjoy the fresh air, get a little exercise and spend a little time with their kids,” said Lesley Tackitt, secretary for the Joyner PTA.
Walk To School Day involves students from all 50 states and schools in more than 40 countries.
