Ivey: Abortion law reflects value for ‘sanctity of life’
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey says the state’s new abortion ban reflects Alabamians’ value for the “sanctity of life.”
Ivey made the comments Monday. Last week she signed the legislation that bans abortion in almost all cases.
Asked about criticism the state has received, Ivey responded that the Legislature has spoken and the ban “underscores the sanctity of life the people of Alabama value so highly.”
The Republican governor was asked about the ban after a press conference about the state tourism industry.
Ivey says she does not think the ban will hurt the state tourism or industrial recruitment.
The law does not take effect for six months and it is anticipated that it will be blocked by the courts.
