Itawamba Jail Bill Passes State House
ITAWAMBA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Building a new Itawamba County jail moved one step closer to reality on Tuesday.
House Bill 1724 moved forward in the legislature.
If approved, the legislation would allow Itawamba County supervisors to build or purchase a jail anywhere in the county.
Parts of the facility date back to 1947.
Back in September, Sheriff Chris Dickenson told WCBI about the need for a new jail.
Some inmates are sent to other counties because there is no space.
The measure now moves on to the state Senate for a vote.
