Isolated strong storms tonight, looking better for Christmas
TONIGHT: Rain and storms are likely. A few strong to severe storms are possible between about 3 a.m. and 9 a.m. Any severe storm should remain isolated in nature but we can’t rule out some damaging wind gusts and perhaps a tornado somewhere in the region. Look for lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
WEDNESDAY: The best chance of rain should wrap up by late morning but a few showers may linger into the afternoon. Total rainfall may range from 1/3” to over 3” with the heaviest totals north of the Golden Triangle. Mainly cloudy skies are expected but some peaks of sun are possible. Temperatures should warm into the upper 60s to around 70. Winds are going to become northwesterly between 5 and 15 mph.
THURSDAY: Low clouds may plague the region during the morning hours but there should be more sun overall by the afternoon. Highs are likely going to top out in the 60s. Winter officially arrives at 10:28 a.m.
FRIDAY/FRIDAY NIGHT: Warm and humid conditions stick around and that will lead to highs around 70. Some rain is possible during the day but the best chance will be Friday evening & night with an incoming cold front. Another round of locally heavy rain is likely and we can’t totally rule out a few isolated strong storms either.
SATURDAY: The best chance of rain will be during the first half of the day with drier air winning out during by the late afternoon. Temperatures may only be in the mid to low 50s by the afternoon. Lows Sunday night should be in the 30s.
CHRISTMAS EVE DAY: It now appears as though we’re going to have a cool but quiet start to Christmas. Look for variably cloudy skies and highs in the 40s. Temperatures will cool into the 20s by the time Santa flies in.
CHRISTMAS DAY: Mostly sunny and seasonably chilly weather is now expected. We’ll wake up to temperatures in the 20s and warm into the 40s by the afternoon.
